Conor McGregor Defeated in Sexual Assault Lawsuit
A jury in Ireland has determined that UFC star Conor McGregor is liable for assaulting a woman in a hotel room in Dublin in 2018.

Nikita Hand, who is also known as Nikita Ni Laimhin, has prevailed in her civil case against the fighter in Dublin’s High Court, receiving nearly €250,000 on Friday after the jury deliberated for more than six hours.

Hand brought civil charges against McGregor and his friend James Lawrence, claiming they sexually assaulted her following a Christmas party in December 2018.

During her three days of testimony, she expressed that she felt she might die and never see her child again when McGregor allegedly "choked" her.

In response, McGregor denied having “brutally raped and battered” her, asserting that their encounter was athletic and vigorous but not violent. He contended that she never said ‘no’ or tried to stop him, maintaining that her account was fabricated.

Throughout the trial, it was revealed that McGregor and Hand had some prior acquaintance and had interacted on social media.

Hand stated that before the assault occurred, she had reached out to McGregor, who subsequently drove her and a friend to a party in a penthouse suite at the Beacon Hotel in south Dublin, where they celebrated into the early hours of the morning. She mentioned that they consumed substantial amounts of alcohol and cocaine.

According to Hand, McGregor took her into a bedroom and sexually assaulted her multiple times, placing her in a chokehold. She recounted that he told her, “Now you know how I felt in the octagon where I tapped out three times.”

A paramedic who assessed Hand the following day reported that she had significant bruising. She was later diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Associated Press reported that the defense presented surveillance footage in court that allegedly depicted Hand kissing McGregor's arm and hugging him after exiting the hotel room, with McGregor's lawyer arguing that she appeared very happy.

As the jury, comprised of eight women and four men, found him liable for assault, McGregor reportedly shook his head. He later issued a statement expressing his “disappointment” that the jury did not consider all evidence, indicating plans to appeal the verdict. He noted, “I am with my family, focused on my future.”

Hand did not succeed in her lawsuit against McGregor’s friend James Lawrence, whom she had also accused of involvement in the incident.
