NPC Spokesperson Asserts: China's Economy Exhibits Resilience and Strong Fundamentals
A spokesperson for China's National People's Congress stated on Tuesday that China's economy possesses a solid foundation, strong resilience, numerous advantages, and significant potential.

Lou Qinjian, who is the spokesperson for the third session of the 14th NPC, shared these insights while briefing the press about the upcoming NPC session, which is set to take place from March 5 to 11.

Over the past year, China implemented a series of incremental policies aimed at effectively boosting social confidence and successfully achieved its growth target of approximately 5 percent, according to Lou.

He highlighted that China's vast market and complete industrial system serve as strong support for economic development. Lou pointed out that there exists ample room for demand, structural, and momentum upgrades, which will not only bolster economic development but also provide substantial opportunities to navigate various risks and challenges.

"We are full of confidence in China's economic prospects," he remarked, noting that the NPC will continue to offer legal guarantees that promote high-quality development and high-level opening up.

In addressing a question about the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Lou noted that Hong Kong and Macao have significantly contributed to and played an irreplaceable role in China's reform and opening up initiatives.

He mentioned that the central government has implemented various policy measures to fully support Hong Kong and Macao SARs in their participation in the construction of the Greater Bay Area. Over the past five years, this area’s total economic output has surpassed 14 trillion yuan.

Lou emphasized that the flow of goods, capital, and personnel among the three regions has become increasingly convenient, with the number of visitors to Hong Kong reaching 45 million in 2024.

Regarding the livelihood of residents, he mentioned that Hong Kong has adopted multiple strategies to enhance housing and land supply to tackle residents' housing issues. Additionally, the establishment of the Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital has bolstered the availability of medical resources in Macao, according to Lou.
