October 9 is recognized as World Post Day, a date set aside to honor the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874.

The purpose of this day is to highlight the essential functions of postal services in everyday life for both individuals and businesses while also acknowledging their role in global socioeconomic development.

China's express delivery sector has experienced rapid growth, with the annual express delivery volume hitting 132.1 billion in 2023 and generating a revenue of 1.2 trillion yuan, as reported by the State Post Bureau.

This growth in the postal industry is largely attributed to advancements in logistics infrastructure, which have fostered business expansion nationwide.

By 2023, postal companies had established a total of 468,000 business outlets across various categories, an increase of 34,000 from the previous year. The national postal service network has now expanded to 40,000 locations, while the express delivery service network has reached 228,000.

According to the SPB, national express delivery revenue exceeded 1 trillion yuan by September 29 this year. Since first surpassing the 1 trillion yuan mark in 2021, China's express delivery business revenue has continued to grow at a rapid pace, with the time taken to reach this milestone decreasing each year, nearly 1.5 months sooner this year compared to last.

The top five cities in terms of express delivery volume during the first eight months of 2024 are Yiwu, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Jieyang.
