Musk Expresses Concern Over Increased Censorship Under Harris
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has expressed concerns that a win for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris could lead to a suppression of free speech in the United States.

During a rally in Pennsylvania for Republican candidate Donald Trump on Saturday, Musk was asked about the potential implications of a Harris administration should she secure victory in the November election.

“We’ll see a lot of censorship under a sort of Kamala regime. Kamala is really just a puppet, frankly. If the teleprompter breaks she doesn’t know what to say,” Musk observed, adding that he views the administration as a “big government machine” that presents a specific image to gain voter attraction.

Musk also challenged the narrative surrounding Trump being “a danger to democracy,” describing it as “bizarre and hypocritical,” particularly in light of what he considers “incredibly undemocratic” actions leading to President Joe Biden being sidelined in the race.

“There’s clearly a strong push for censorship under the guise of fighting disinformation. But disinformation is really a propaganda word. Who’s going to decide what disinformation is? The government? That’s crazy,” he remarked.

Despite his concerns about potential censorship, Musk expressed optimism regarding a shifting national attitude, as more Americans begin to question “everything the media tells you.”

“Actually, in the US people are starting to realize that the legacy media is just a propaganda machine,” he contended, contrasting this with Europeans who still view the news as credible.

In her role as vice president, Harris was instrumental in launching the White House Task Force to Address Online Harassment and Abuse in June 2022, which aimed to protect women and the LGBTQ community. Additionally, in 2019, she described social media platforms as sources of “hate” and “misinformation” and advocated for holding them accountable for the content they disseminate.

Musk has consistently criticized the U.S. government for what he views as overreach and excessive content moderation efforts. Though he once maintained a stance of political neutrality, he has since endorsed Donald Trump following the former president's survival of an assassination attempt in July, contributing significant funds to his campaign. Trump, if elected, has pledged to establish a new government role called ‘secretary of cost-cutting’ specifically for Musk.
