Mainland Criticizes DPP for Obstructing Cross-Straits Scholarly Exchanges
A spokesperson from the Chinese mainland criticized Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities on Tuesday for their restrictions on university collaborations with top science and engineering institutions in the mainland.

Chen Binhua, who represents the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, stated that the DPP's actions are detrimental to Taiwan's universities and reflect a narrow-minded and arrogant attitude.

Following a prior ban on interactions between local institutions and three mainland universities, such as Jinan University, Taiwan's educational authority has recently extended the list to include seven additional universities from the mainland, among them Beihang University and Beijing Institute of Technology.

These universities are esteemed worldwide for their engineering programs, and their accomplishments contribute significantly to industrial advancement and technological innovation, benefiting not only the Chinese mainland but the global community as well, rather than being limited to military applications, according to Chen.

The DPP has consistently interfered politically in cross-Straits educational exchanges, showcasing a tendency to resist any connections with the mainland—an approach that has faced considerable criticism from Taiwan's educational institutions.

"We are willing to share the convenience of the mainland's advanced education with students from Taiwan, and the mainland's universities always welcome Taiwan compatriots with academic aspirations," Chen remarked.
