‘Liberals’ defeated by Trump victory, says EU state’s PM
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, much like US president-elect Donald Trump, has recently survived an assassination attempt.

Fico commented on Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, viewing it as a blow to "liberal" ideology and highlighting the unreliability of legacy media. He described the assassination attempt as a consequence of a highly polarized media atmosphere.

“We respect the choice made by American citizens, because we do not interfere in the internal politics of other states and we don’t lecture anyone,” Fico stated on Wednesday.

In his congratulations to Trump, Fico characterized the election result as a “defeat of liberal and progressive ideas.”

The Slovak prime minister criticized the American media's portrayal of the campaign, noting that the election results contradicted their expectations. Trump's win, he asserted, confirmed that “one should never trust the media and the polls,” which he claimed are “90% made to order.”

Fico added that the European Union in Brussels would “sweat” in response to Trump’s election, suggesting that the change in leadership in Washington could raise questions about the future dynamics between the US and the EU.

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini also extended his congratulations to Trump, emphasizing a commitment to “make the transatlantic bond great again” and reaffirming that Bratislava will continue to be “a strong and reliable ally” of NATO.

Additionally, Fico expressed hope that Trump would advocate for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, indicating his support for a peace proposal by China and Brazil aimed at resolving the conflict with Russia as soon as possible.
