Israel Verifies Killing of Hamas Leader
**Yahya Sinwar Reported Killed in Gaza**

Israel has officially announced the death of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated on Thursday that they were “investigating” whether Sinwar was among the Palestinian militants killed during a skirmish at an unspecified location.

“Eliminated: Yahya Sinwar,” the IDF posted on X on Thursday evening.

Foreign Minister Israel Katz has also informed several colleagues worldwide about Sinwar’s death, as confirmed by an official statement.

At 62 years old, Sinwar has served as the political leader of Hamas in Gaza since early 2017. He took full leadership of the organization in August following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Sinwar, alongside Mohammed Deif, chief of the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, is viewed as a key architect of the October 7, 2023 attack on southern Israel, which sparked the ongoing conflict. Israel claims to have killed Deif in an airstrike earlier this year, but the group has refuted his death.

Graphic images circulating online on Thursday, which have not been verified, allegedly depict Sinwar’s body partially buried in rubble. The body appears to exhibit signs of multiple blast injuries, as well as a possible gunshot wound to the head. Reports indicate that the military has taken the body to a laboratory for DNA testing.

Israel declared war on Hamas last year after approximately 1,100 people were killed and around 250 kidnapped during the October 7 surprise attack. Since then, extensive airstrikes and ground operations have led to significant destruction in Gaza. Local health authorities report that around 42,000 people, predominantly women and children, have died in the Palestinian territory over the past year.
