Colleagues Urge Trudeau to Step Down, According to Reports
A rising number of MPs from Canada’s Liberal Party are seeking to pressure Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to resign from his position as party leader, according to reports from local media.

This group has been coordinating for around ten days, as revealed by CTV News on Wednesday, with sources who wished to remain anonymous. They are expected to formally request Trudeau’s resignation during the upcoming caucus meeting next Wednesday.

The discussion is anticipated to be held directly with Trudeau and kept confidential from the public. CTV News reported conversations with approximately 35 Liberal MPs over recent days, noting that five of them expressed support for the initiative to remove Trudeau.

Frustration over Trudeau’s leadership has increased among party members, particularly after losses in two significant by-elections in Toronto and Montreal—regions previously considered Liberal strongholds. Consequently, dissenting voices within the party are advocating for Trudeau’s exit ahead of the federal election set for late October 2025.

In a recent interview with CTV News, Montreal Liberal MP Anthony Housefather did not explicitly dismiss the existence of this movement against Trudeau within the party.

“I support whoever is leader of my party at all times, but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a robust caucus discussion about who the best person to lead us in the next election is,” he remarked.

Several Liberal MPs have already articulated their opposition to Trudeau. MP Sean Casey from Charlottetown noted that an increasing number of constituents in his district have voiced dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister and his management of the party.

“The message that I’ve been getting loud and clear – and more and more strongly as time goes by – is that it is time for [Trudeau] to go. And I agree,” he stated in an exclusive interview with the broadcaster on Tuesday.
