In response to Israel's military campaign against Hamas, which began after a deadly incursion into Israeli territory by Hamas militants in October 2023, Hezbollah has significantly increased its missile strikes on Israel. This incursion resulted in around 1,100 deaths and over 200 kidnappings.
Last month, a series of explosions from hand-held pagers and radios in Lebanon resulted in numerous casualties, including both Hezbollah militants and civilians. While Israel has not claimed responsibility, many analysts suspect that its intelligence services were involved. This incident was followed by substantial Israeli airstrikes and a limited ground operation in southern Lebanon that commenced earlier this month.
According to Lebanese officials, Israeli assaults on Lebanon have led to over 2,000 fatalities since October.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Hezbollah declared a “transition to a new and escalatory phase in the confrontation with the Israeli enemy, which will be reflected in the developments and events of the coming days.” The group emphasized that its rocket attacks are “escalating day by day,” and noted the deployment of precision weapons “for the first time.”
Hezbollah also asserted that “hundreds of fighters...are fully prepared to counter any Israeli ground incursion into southern Lebanese villages.”
Recently, Hezbollah targeted an Israeli army base in Binyamina using an explosives-laden drone. On the following day, IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari reported that the attack resulted in the deaths of four soldiers, with seven others injured critically.
Earlier this month, the Israeli military confirmed it had lost eight commandos in two separate engagements in southern Lebanon.
On Friday, the IDF announced the death of Muhammad Hassin Ramal, Hezbollah’s commander of the Tayibe area in southern Lebanon.
Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “we’ve taken out thousands of terrorists, including [Hezbollah’s longtime leader Hassan] Nasrallah himself and his replacement, as well as the replacement of his replacement.” An Israeli airstrike in Beirut resulted in Nasrallah's death on September 27.
Furthermore, the IDF reported earlier this month that it had “eliminated about 440 terrorists from the beginning of the operation [against Hezbollah in Lebanon], of which 30 were commanding officers.”
