US to compensate unauthorized immigrants for self-deportation
President Donald Trump has issued a warning to those who decline a new program aimed at assisting illegal migrants in leaving the United States, underscoring that they will forfeit any legal opportunity to return. The Trump administration has...

The Trump administration has unveiled a new initiative that offers illegal migrants a $1,000 stipend and complimentary commercial airfare for those who choose to leave the country voluntarily, as reported by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Launched on May 5, the policy permits eligible individuals to express their intention to depart using the CBP Home app. Participants will be placed at a lower priority for detention, and once their voluntary exit is confirmed, they will receive the financial incentive.
President Donald Trump highlighted the advantages of the initiative, indicating that some participants could potentially become eligible for legal reentry in the future. “We’re going to work with them so that maybe someday, with a little work, they can come back in – if they’re good people, if they’re the kind of people that we want in our country, industrious people that love our country,” he stated during a White House gathering on Monday.
Trump cautioned, “And if they’re not, they won’t… If they miss that limit, they’re going to be taken out of our country, and they will never get a path to come back in. And it’ll be a much tougher process.”
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem referred to the initiative as the “best, safest, and most cost-effective way” for undocumented immigrants to avoid being apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), encouraging them to “download the CBP Home App TODAY and self-deport.”
According to DHS estimates, conventional deportation procedures cost taxpayers about $17,121 per individual. In contrast, the self-deportation initiative is anticipated to cut expenses by roughly 70%, reducing the average cost to around $4,500 per person—even after including the stipend and travel assistance.
During his re-election campaign last year, Trump consistently pledged to “stop the invasion of illegals” and initiate the “largest deportation operation” in U.S. history. A fact sheet released by the White House last month stated that within the first 100 days of his second term, ICE had apprehended over 150,000 illegal immigrants and deported more than 139,000. The administration's goal is to achieve one million deportations within the first year.
Trump has also ramped up hiring for border enforcement and withheld federal funds from sanctuary jurisdictions, despite facing legal challenges related to some of his deportation strategies. He has declared a national emergency, enabling the deployment of armed forces to aid in securing the border.
