UK: 'Coalition of willing' enhances readiness for post-truce Ukraine
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Saturday that Western allies, aside from the U.S., are intensifying their preparations to support Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire with Russia. He stated that defense chiefs would solidify...

Starmer led a virtual meeting aimed at increasing pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire deal championed by U.S. President Donald Trump. He also sought commitments to help ensure any agreement, which Trump has indicated he expects Europe to shoulder.
The meeting included around two dozen leaders, such as those from Germany, France, Italy, Canada, and Australia, along with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO's secretary general, but notably excluded representatives from the U.S.
Starmer emphasized that the "coalition of the willing" reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia and to ensuring any ceasefire resulting from Trump's outreach to Russia.
Despite Russia’s conditional acceptance of the ceasefire proposal, which reiterates its military objectives, it indicates that any agreement is unlikely to be reached quickly.
Starmer remarked to reporters: "We agreed we will keep increasing the pressure on Russia, keep the military aid flowing to Ukraine, and keep tightening restrictions on Russia's economy to weaken Putin's war machine and bring him to the table."
In the wake of Trump’s refusal to underwrite Europe’s and Ukraine’s security further, other Western nations have felt compelled to take action.
"Our militaries will meet on Thursday this week here in the United Kingdom to put strong and robust plans in place to swing in behind a peace deal and guarantee Ukraine's future security," Starmer added.
"President Trump has offered Putin the way forward to a lasting peace. Now we must make this a reality."
Both Britain and France have expressed readiness to send peacekeepers to Ukraine if a ceasefire is achieved. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also stated his country would consider such requests.
However, Russia has made it clear that it will not accept Western forces on Ukrainian territory.
