Israel sanctions complete 'conquest' of Gaza, reports media
The Israeli government has reportedly approved a plan for the complete military occupation of Gaza, which includes the forced relocation of Palestinian residents to the southern part of the territory, according to multiple news outlets citing unnamed officials.

Officials quoted by the AP indicated that this new plan aims to assist Israel in achieving its objectives of defeating Hamas and securing the release of hostages held in Gaza. Israel claims that the militant group is detaining 59 captives, though approximately 35 of those are believed to be deceased.

During a meeting on Monday morning, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet unanimously endorsed the strategy, as revealed by two sources to the media. Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Eyal Zamir, also announced the mobilization of tens of thousands of additional reservists.

“The plan will include, among other things, the conquest of the Gaza Strip and the holding of the territories, moving the Gaza population south for their protection,” an Israeli official stated, as quoted by Agence France Presse.

This initiative is expected to displace hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, potentially worsening an already severe humanitarian crisis, as reported by the AP.

Zamir disclosed the mobilization on Sunday, underlining the need for more troops to “increase pressure” on Hamas. The destruction of the militant group is the stated goal of the Israeli offensive, which is in retaliation for a Hamas-led incursion into Israel in October 2023.

The attack resulted in roughly 1,200 deaths in Israel and the abduction of numerous hostages, while Israeli airstrikes have led to over 50,000 fatalities in Gaza, mostly among civilians.

Israel has been accused of carrying out indiscriminate bombings, deliberately destroying civilian infrastructure, and obstructing humanitarian aid. The humanitarian situation has sharply declined due to a blockade imposed by Israel, resulting in critical shortages of food, medical supplies, and other essential resources. International organizations have voiced serious concerns about the situation and its effects on the civilian population.

In February, US President Donald Trump suggested the “voluntary” relocation of Palestinians from Gaza to other countries, including Jordan and Egypt, positing that this would enable the transformation of the enclave into a resort area. While many nations condemned Trump’s proposal, Netanyahu described it as a “remarkable idea” that should be “pursued.”
