Harris promises a departure from Biden's path in Fox interview

US Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has taken steps to differentiate her political approach from that of President Joe Biden during an interview with Fox News on Wednesday.

In earlier media interactions, Harris had refrained from highlighting the distinctions between herself and the current president.

“You’re not Joe Biden, you’re not Donald Trump, but nothing comes to mind that you would do differently?” asked Fox host Bret Baier, pressing the Democratic candidate for clarity.

“Let me be very clear, my presidency will not be a continuation of Joe Biden’s presidency,” Harris said, emphasizing her intention to rely on her “professional experiences” and introduce “fresh new ideas.”

“For example, as someone who has not spent the majority of my career in Washington DC, I invite ideas: whether it be from the Republicans who are supporting me, who were just on stage with me minutes ago, and the business sector and others, who can contribute to the decisions that I make,” the vice president elaborated.

Referring to her campaign slogan, “Time to turn the page,” Baier asked what she envisioned turning the page to, considering she has already served as vice president for over three years. Harris redirected her response to criticize her Republican opponent.

“Well, first of all, turning the page from the last decade in which we have been burdened with the kind of rhetoric coming from Donald Trump,” she replied, alleging that the former president has contributed to the division of the American people.

Harris faced media scrutiny following a recent appearance on the Late Show, where she was criticized for dodging questions about the "major changes" her presidency would implement compared to Biden’s.

“Sure, well I’m obviously not Joe Biden,” she stated to host Stephen Colbert, clarifying that she is also not Donald Trump, which received applause from the audience.

“And so when we think about the significance of what this next generation of leadership looks like, were I to be elected president, it is about – frankly, I love the American people, and I believe in our country,” she continued, commending the American work ethic, ambition, and character.

In another interview on ABC last week, Harris was also queried about how her approach would diverge from Biden's.

“There is not a thing that comes to mind in terms of – and I’ve been a part of most of the decisions that have had impact,” the presidential nominee remarked.

Donald Trump took advantage of her comments, posting on his Truth Social platform the next day: “Kamala stated clearly, yesterday, that she would not do anything different than Joe Biden, so there is nothing to debate.”

After Biden stepped down earlier this year following a contentious debate against Trump that raised concerns about his mental acuity, Harris emerged as the Democratic party's candidate for the upcoming election.
