China promises retaliatory actions to Trump's new "10% tariff" threat
On Friday, China's Commerce Ministry expressed strong opposition to the U.S. threat of implementing an additional 10 percent tariff on imports from China, set to take effect on March 4. The ministry asserted its commitment to taking "necessary countermeasures" to protect China's legitimate rights and interests.

A spokesperson for the Commerce Ministry stated, "China has repeatedly stressed that unilateral tariffs violate World Trade Organization rules and damage the multilateral trading system. China firmly opposes the U.S.' move."

The U.S. has justified this latest tariff threat by pointing to the so-called fentanyl issue. In response, the spokesperson highlighted that China enforces some of the strictest anti-drug policies in the world and collaborates internationally on anti-drug efforts, including those with the U.S.

The spokesperson further criticized the U.S. for neglecting objective facts, noting that it previously imposed a 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods in connection with fentanyl and other issues, and is now threatening additional tariffs.

China hopes the U.S. will refrain from continuing along a misguided path and will instead pursue resolutions to disagreements through equal dialogue. The spokesperson emphasized that should the U.S. persist with its current actions, China will implement all necessary countermeasures to uphold its legitimate rights and interests.

Furthermore, China's foreign ministry condemned Washington's actions. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian remarked during a regular news briefing, "China has repeatedly stated that there is no winner in a trade war or a tariff war," adding that the U.S. unilateral tariff increases severely violate World Trade Organization rules and adversely affect both nations as well as the global economy.
