China commits to aiding AI development and international collaboration
China will maintain its role in delivering global public goods, such as backing for artificial intelligence (AI) development and enhancing capabilities in developing nations, to utilize AI for the betterment of the entire human race, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson declared on Tuesday.

During a press briefing, spokesperson Mao Ning discussed these points answering inquiries regarding the commencement of the first Seminar on Capacity Building of Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai. Mao highlighted that AI’s fast progression and broad application are crucial in leading the latest wave of technological and industrial shifts.

As a leading nation in AI technology, China prioritizes AI development and its deployment, especially in supporting the developing world, Mao mentioned, emphasizing China’s dedication to assist developing countries in reaping AI's benefits and ensuring their substantial involvement in worldwide AI governance.

In support of this initiative, China presented a draft resolution at this year's UN General Assembly titled “Enhancing International Cooperation on Capacity-building of Artificial Intelligence,” which gained unanimous approval and was co-sponsored by 143 countries, Mao informed.

Following the resolution, China is cooperating with the UN to conduct the Seminar on Capacity Building of Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai from September 3 to 6, attended by representatives from about 40 countries with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres present at the opening.

Mao pointed out that the seminar aims to provide representatives from the Global South with a richer comprehension of AI’s current advances and trends via expert talks, discussions, site visits, and surveys, thereby closing the AI gap.

China will persist in supplying such global public goods, aiding the development of emerging countries, and advocating for AI's application for universal benefit, added the spokesperson.
