During an election conference on Sunday, the leader of Germany’s left-wing BSW party criticized Western sanctions against Russia, stating that they are “killing” German companies while benefiting the American economy.
The gathering of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice took place in Bonn, where delegates adopted their platform for the upcoming Bundestag election next month. Throughout her address, Wagenknecht refrained from placing blame on Russia for the conflict in Ukraine.
“The sanctions have nothing to do with morality, they have nothing to do with human rights, they have nothing to do with the love of peace, they are simply a stimulus program for the US economy and a killer program for German and European companies,” Wagenknecht stated.
She advocated for the resumption of natural gas imports from Russia, emphasizing that energy imports should be based on the lowest price rather than on “any kind of double standards or ideology.”
Additionally, Wagenknecht condemned Washington’s foreign policy, highlighting “the blood trail of US proxy wars” worldwide. She urged that the German chancellor must not serve as “a vassal” of the US.
BSW co-leader Amira Mohamed Ali reinforced the party’s stance for “a strong, fair and sovereign Germany.”
Meanwhile, the right-wing Alternative for Germany party met in Riesa, Saxony, where delegates dismissed a resolution condemning Russia and advocated for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
The forthcoming snap election was triggered by the collapse of Germany’s ruling three-party coalition last month, resulting from budget disagreements.
