British Prime Minister Mistakenly Refers to Hostages as Sausages
Keir Starmer made a notable error while discussing London’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called for the release of “sausages” by the Palestinian armed group Hamas during a speech addressed at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool on Tuesday.

“I call again for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the return of the sausages,” Starmer stated, prompting applause from the audience.

He quickly rectified his mistake, clarifying that he meant to refer to “hostages.”

On social media platform X, users suggested that the slip-up might have been due to Starmer being “a little hungry” or perhaps reflecting on his breakfast choices.

One commentator humorously noted that Hamas would likely have no issue returning the “sausages,” given that they are Muslims and do not consume pork.

During his speech, Starmer reiterated the British government's support for a two-state solution, advocating for “a recognized Palestinian state alongside a safe and secure Israel.”

The context of his comments comes following significant violence, as over 1,200 individuals were killed, and around 250 taken hostage during the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. Reports indicate that at least 97 captives remain in Gaza.

Additionally, recent figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry reveal that nearly 41,500 people have died and over 96,000 have sustained injuries in the airstrikes and ground operations conducted by Israel since the Hamas assault.
