Ocasio-Cortez Garners $9.6 Million in Three Months, Surpassing Previous Record
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accomplished a remarkable feat by raising $9.6 million in the first quarter of the year, significantly more than her previous second-highest quarter. This substantial fundraising total emerges as progressive voices increasingly urge her to consider a 2028 primary challenge against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Currently, Ocasio-Cortez has over $8 million in cash on hand and has recently been active on the road alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders for his “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, attracting thousands of supporters. Her fundraising figures were reported in a Federal Elections Commission filing on Tuesday.

As a prominent figure in the progressive movement, Ocasio-Cortez has consistently excelled at fundraising by leveraging a large network of small-dollar donors.

In a post on X, she indicated that the average campaign donation was $21. Campaign manager Oliver Hidalgo-Wohlleben noted that 64 percent of the contributions came from first-time donors, emphasizing, “AOC doesn’t take a dollar from lobbyists or corporate PACs. Our top donor professions are teachers and nurses.”

Ocasio-Cortez expressed her gratitude for the support she receives, stating, “I cannot convey enough how grateful I am to the millions of people supporting us with your time, resources, & energy. Your support has allowed us to rally people together at record scale to organize their communities.”

Her impressive fundraising efforts drew praise from fellow progressives, particularly because it more than doubled her previous best quarter, when she raised $4.4 million during the summer of 2020.

Faiz Shakir, an adviser to Sanders, remarked on X, “The people are sending Democrats a message about the direction they would like to see.”
