Biden Expresses Regret Over Dropping Re-election Campaign, Says WaPo
**The US President Reportedly Believes He Could Have Defeated Donald Trump**

US President Joe Biden has privately shared regrets about his choice to withdraw from the 2024 election, feeling that he could have triumphed over President-elect Donald Trump, as reported by the Washington Post.

The president has recognized mistakes in his leadership, including certain policy decisions and communication difficulties, according to the paper's Saturday report. Biden, along with several aides, believes he should have remained in the race despite the challenges that led to his departure, the article claims, citing White House sources.

These sentiments have emerged in recent private discussions. Biden opted to step aside in July after a televised debate with Trump that attracted criticism and intensified worries regarding his age and cognitive abilities.

He has publicly acknowledged that his performance during the June 27 debate was lacking, admitting he “screwed up” while trying to clearly express his policies.

This decision allowed Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic nominee, who was later defeated by Trump in the November election.

Beyond his regrets about stepping down, Biden has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with his selection of Merrick Garland as Attorney General. He has shown frustration with the Department of Justice’s perceived delays in prosecuting Trump. Biden reportedly believes that a quicker response from the Justice Department on allegations against Trump—ranging from attempts to overturn the 2020 election to mishandling classified documents—could have led to a politically damaging trial before the election.

Additionally, Biden has critiqued the Justice Department under Garland for its “aggressiveness” in investigating his son, Hunter Biden, according to media reports citing unnamed sources.

Hunter Biden was convicted in June for lying about his long-standing drug addiction when purchasing a handgun. In a separate case, he pleaded guilty in September to multiple tax offenses, with sentencing scheduled for this month. On December 1, Joe Biden pardoned his son despite previously promising not to intervene, arguing that Hunter had been prosecuted “selectively and unfairly” due to their familial relationship.

These revelations arise amid broader reflections by Biden on his presidency.

Earlier this month, Biden acknowledged several missteps, including the choice not to place his name on COVID-19 relief checks, which he believes cost his administration recognition for its economic achievements.

In a recent podcast, he also discussed the challenges posed by the evolving media landscape, noting that the abundance of information sources has made it increasingly difficult to effectively communicate his administration’s accomplishments in an environment where audiences typically select news that aligns with their viewpoints.
