US House Speaker Pledges to Eliminate the ‘deep state’
US House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced ambitious plans to reform taxes, borders, and regulations in 2025, vowing to dismantle the "deep state" as part of his initiatives. In a recent interview on Fox News, Johnson, who was re-elected as House speaker in November 2024, reiterated that Republicans are ready to move swiftly on their agenda in the new Congress.

“We’ve made a lot of campaign promises. And we’re going to be dismantling the deep state all along the way,” he stated during his appearance on Sunday Morning Futures.

A key element of the Republican strategy is to avert what Johnson has called the “largest tax increase in US history,” which he claims will happen if the 2017 tax cuts are not extended by the end of the year. He assured that reviving the economy is a priority, with plans to extend those tax cuts, eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits and tips, and raise the cap on state and local tax deductions. The proposed legislative package also aims to bolster US manufacturing while cutting federal regulations.

“We are going to incentivize American companies to manufacture in the US again, and we are going to make sure that the regulatory burden and the red tape that has smothered our free market is reduced and eliminated,” Johnson emphasized on Sunday.

To facilitate these reforms, Johnson intends to employ budget reconciliation, a legislative method that allows bills to pass the Senate by a simple majority. He anticipates that the reform package will be enacted within the first 100 days of the upcoming Republican administration.

The agenda also features stringent immigration measures aimed at strengthening border security. Johnson has shown support for completing the US-Mexico border wall and enhancing enforcement efforts.

Johnson’s re-election as speaker has been regarded as a significant win for conservatives. He has committed to working closely with President-elect Donald Trump, who has also promised to eliminate the "deep state." This term is often used to describe entrenched federal employees and bureaucracies that many conservatives believe hinder Republican policies.
