Biden Aiming to Undermine Everything Before Trump's Arrival, Lavrov Claims
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has commented on the actions of the outgoing Biden administration, suggesting they are intentionally creating problems for President-elect Donald Trump. During a press conference on Tuesday, he addressed the recent sanctions imposed by Washington on the Russian energy sector, which include measures against major petroleum producers such as Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz, along with their subsidiaries. Among those affected is Naftna industrija Srbije, responsible for the distribution of Russian oil to Serbia and other neighboring European countries. The sanctions also extend to related insurance providers and over 30 oilfield service companies, as well as more than 180 vessels involved in oil deliveries.

Lavrov argued that these sanctions are intended to impact not just Russia and Serbia but also Trump, who had indicated a willingness to renew discussions with Moscow to seek a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine conflict. He remarked, “The Democrats have such a manner in American politics to spoil the whole thing for the next administration before the end of their mandate.”

He cited the preceding administration's actions, recalling how then-President Barack Obama “banished 120 [Russian] diplomats from the US and arrested five sites of [Russian] diplomatic property” shortly before Trump's inauguration, stating that it negatively affected Russian-American relations in 2017.

In reference to the current situation with the Biden administration, Lavrov suggested that from a moral standpoint, it would have been appropriate to refrain from such actions leading up to Trump’s inauguration on January 20. He emphasized, “No, they are unwilling to do so. They want to spoil the whole thing.”
