Bloomberg Reports Trump ‘not invested’ in Ukraine
US President-elect Donald Trump does not view the Ukraine conflict as a core priority for America’s national interests, according to Bloomberg, which referenced several anonymous EU officials.

The media outlet reported on Tuesday that Trump has left his European counterparts with the impression that he is not deeply invested in Ukraine’s future and does not see the war as strategically important to US interests.

Nonetheless, recent indications from Trump's team have given European governments a reason for cautious optimism, hinting that the president-elect may not push Ukraine toward "premature negotiations with Russia." This optimism stems from a "series of private talks" with his advisors. Bloomberg suggested that Trump may continue to support Ukraine to ensure it is in a "position of strength before any talks take place."

Reports suggest that the incoming president is eager to avoid a situation in Ukraine resembling the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan that took place under President Joe Biden in 2021. Additionally, there are concerns that a Russian victory in Ukraine could encourage China to adopt more aggressive strategies.

Bloomberg also mentioned Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who stated after a recent meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate that she does not foresee Washington stepping back from its support for Kiev.

However, sources have informed the media outlet that Trump's unpredictability makes it difficult to predict his actions once he assumes office on January 20.

In a Monday interview with Newsmax, Trump claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin "wants to meet, and I’m going to meet very quickly."

The Kremlin reacted positively to Trump's stated intention to engage with Russia but emphasized that resolving the Ukraine conflict must address its fundamental causes, including NATO's expansion eastward.

Speaking to ABC News on Sunday, incoming US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz remarked: "I just don’t think it’s realistic to say we’re going to expel every Russian from every inch of Ukrainian soil."

He added, "President Trump has acknowledged that reality, and I think it has been a huge step forward that the entire world is acknowledging that reality," suggesting that this acknowledgment might help bring an end to the ongoing violence.

Shortly before the US election on November 5, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance similarly indicated that Kiev might ultimately need to concede some territory to Moscow.
