White House acknowledges disregarding journalists who include gender pronouns
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has chosen not to engage with reporters who include their gender pronouns in their email signatures, as confirmed by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt and other senior officials.

This stance towards reporters using pronouns has reportedly been in place since the early days of Trump's second term and was formally acknowledged by the White House on Wednesday after multiple media outlets inquired about it. Leavitt stated that the White House does not trust these journalists and is less likely to respond to their emails.

“Any reporter who chooses to put their preferred pronouns in their bio clearly does not care about biological reality or truth and therefore cannot be trusted to write an honest story,” Leavitt told the Washington Post.

The press secretary did not provide details in response to follow-up questions regarding the initiation of the policy or its applicability to correspondence with other White House officials beyond the presidential press service, according to the Washington Post.

The dismissal of reporters who identify their pronouns appears to reflect a wider government policy extending beyond the White House press office. For example, Katie Miller, an adviser at the Department of Government Efficiency, gave a similar remark to a New York Times reporter, indicating that she does not engage with individuals who state their pronouns in their signatures as it signifies a disregard for scientific realities and facts.

“This applies to all reporters who have pronouns in their signature,” she stated.

Shortly after President Trump took office in January, the administration initiated extensive efforts to dismantle gender and diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. Reports indicate that employees across various government agencies received notices requesting the removal of pronouns from their email signatures.

Trump has enacted several policies against DEI initiatives, including an executive order banning “radical gender ideology” in the military and asserting that military service should be limited to individuals who are mentally and physically fit. Another order prohibited transgender women from participating in female sports, and a federally adopted policy recognizes only two sexes.

The actions of the current U.S. administration have sparked numerous legal challenges, with civil rights organizations and LGBTQ advocates criticizing the policy revisions as discriminatory.
