Melania Trump Declines to Meet With Jill Biden, According to Reports

Melania Trump, the former and soon-to-be first lady of the United States, has reportedly turned down an invitation to the White House from President Joe Biden. The decision comes in light of the FBI's raid on the Mar-a-Lago estate, during which agents allegedly searched her personal belongings.
Last week's election saw Republican Donald Trump secure a decisive victory over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris. Following the election, Biden extended a formal invitation to the Trumps, scheduled for Wednesday morning local time.
“She ain’t going,” a source familiar with Melania’s decision told the New York Post on Monday. “Jill Biden’s husband authorized the FBI snooping through her underwear drawer. The Bidens are disgusting.” The source further stated, “Jill Biden isn’t someone Melania needs to meet.”
The FBI's raid on Mar-a-Lago took place in August 2022 under the pretense of searching for classified documents. This unprecedented action and the subsequent criminal charges faced by Trump were later overturned by the US Supreme Court, which ruled that presidents held full immunity for their official actions.
CNN has indicated that Melania’s absence might be attributed to a “scheduling conflict” related to the release of her memoir, quoting three anonymous sources aware of her plans.
The invitation extended to the Trumps is seen as a symbolic gesture, signaling to both Americans and the international community that the Bidens acknowledge the Democrats' loss and are prepared to transition power peacefully by January 20. Additionally, CNN noted that the Democrats may be aiming to establish a moral high ground, especially in light of Trump’s previous snub following the contentious 2020 election.
Four years ago, Biden and Harris garnered a record 81 million votes, winning by the same electoral college margin that Trump used to defeat Hillary Clinton previously. Republicans have claimed that the election was marred by significant irregularities, assertions that Democrats have dismissed as “election denial” and “insurrection.”
This election cycle, Trump achieved 312 electoral college votes, topped the popular vote, and won all seven swing states, while Republicans reclaimed the Senate and appear to have retained control of the House of Representatives.
The tradition of a meeting between the outgoing president and the incoming president, along with their spouses, has a long history in Washington. In 2016, Michelle Obama hosted Melania Trump for tea to familiarize her with the White House.
The coordination of Wednesday’s meeting is being managed by Biden’s chief of staff, Jeff Zients, and Trump’s campaign manager, Susie Wiles.
