Wang Yi Engages in Strategic Dialogue with Portuguese Foreign Minister
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted the second China-Portugal strategic dialogue at the level of foreign ministers with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel in Beijing on Tuesday.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the longstanding tradition of mutual respect and support between China and Portugal. He commended both nations for their political wisdom in resolving the Macao issue, which serves as a commendable example of addressing historical issues through amicable discussions.
Last year marked the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Portugal. Wang noted that leaders from both countries exchanged congratulatory messages, recognizing the successful development of their bilateral relationship.
This year is significant, as it commemorates the 20th anniversary of the China-Portugal comprehensive strategic partnership and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union. Wang expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Portugal to create a more stable, productive, and dynamic bilateral relationship, aiming to establish China and Europe as strategic partners founded on mutual trust and shared achievements.
Additionally, Wang conveyed that Chinese modernization promotes mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, which will open up greater opportunities for Portugal and other nations worldwide. He encouraged both sides to actively enhance cooperation, foster people-to-people exchanges, leverage Macao’s role as a connector, and promote further development of bilateral ties.
Rangel conveyed his satisfaction with the successful implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" framework in Macao and reaffirmed Portugal’s commitment to adhering to the one-China policy.
He highlighted the significance of Chinese investment in Portugal’s economic and social progress, expressing eagerness for more Chinese enterprises to engage in investments. Rangel also indicated a willingness to strengthen cooperation with China in various sectors, including economy, trade, energy, health, finance, infrastructure, and green transformation.
Rangel's visit to China is set to span five days, concluding on Friday.
