US Senator Criticizes Biden's $1.25 Billion Arms Package for Ukraine
Senator Mike Lee has labeled the Biden administration's latest attempt to allocate more aid to Ukraine as "money laundering."

The Utah Republican expressed his disapproval of a proposed new weapons package for Ukraine, branding it excessive. On Sunday, he shared his thoughts on social media platform X in response to an Associated Press report about a forthcoming $1.25 billion weaponry package, anticipated to be announced by the outgoing administration soon.

“Please no more money to Ukraine. There’s only so much they can launder,” Lee stated in his post, which included an image of the Ukrainian flag adorned with the caption “Universal symbol for money laundering.”

The imminent package is expected to comprise a “significant amount” of munitions, including missiles for NASAMS and HAWK anti-aircraft systems, along with munitions for Stinger MANPADs and various artillery shells in both 155-mm and 105-mm calibers. This information was reported by AP, citing unnamed US officials.

This new allocation is part of the outgoing administration's strategy to expedite military support to Ukraine before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20. The announcement is rumored to be made on Monday.

Senator Lee has been vocally opposed to ongoing military assistance for Ukraine, especially since Trump secured the presidency. He has accused the Biden administration of attempting to undermine the next administration's potential peace efforts in regards to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“Congress must not give [Biden] a gift to further sabotage President Trump’s peace negotiations on the way out the door,” Lee remarked in late November, following reports that the White House had quietly requested Congress to approve an additional $24 billion in Ukraine-related spending.

Additionally, Republican fiscal conservatives have consistently voiced concerns over calls for unlimited spending without essential structural reforms. President Biden's request for further funding for Ukraine comes amid uncertainties about future US policy on the conflict, especially as President-elect Trump has asserted his capability to resolve the war swiftly and expressed a keen interest in negotiating peace.
