US Restarts Intelligence and Military Support to Ukraine
Support for Ukraine was reinstated after Kiev agreed to Washington's proposal for an "immediate" 30-day ceasefire with Russia.

The US has lifted its pause on military and intelligence aid to Ukraine following the agreement. This announcement was made on Tuesday after discussions in Saudi Arabia. Ukraine has also committed to finalizing a comprehensive agreement concerning its critical resources with Washington "as soon as possible."

“Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the US proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation,” according to the joint statement. The US plans to relay this proposal to Russia shortly.

As a result, the US will “immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine.” Additionally, Washington and Kiev have engaged in discussions regarding “humanitarian relief efforts,” which may include potential prisoner of war swaps, the “release of civilian detainees,” and other initiatives.

During the talks, long-term security guarantees for Ukraine were also a topic of discussion, as noted by US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, who did not disclose further details. Ukraine has pledged to cooperate on a critical resources deal with the US and aims to sign it “as soon as possible.”

So far, there has been no official response from Moscow regarding the outcomes of the US-Ukraine discussions in Jeddah. Previously, the Russian leadership indicated that a temporary ceasefire arrangement would be unacceptable, as it would primarily benefit Kiev and its Western allies.

“The goal should not be a short truce, not some kind of respite for regrouping forces and rearmament with the aim of subsequently continuing the conflict, but a long-term peace based on respect for the legitimate interests of all people, all nations living in this region,” Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in January.
