Colleagues Urge Trudeau to Step Down, According to Canada’s State Media
A significant number of MPs from Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party are reportedly planning to call for the prime minister's resignation as party leader, according to local news sources.

For the past ten days, this faction has been organizing its efforts, as CTV News revealed on Wednesday through anonymous sources. The group intends to formally request Trudeau's resignation during the upcoming caucus meeting next Wednesday.

This matter is expected to be directly addressed with Trudeau while remaining confidential from the public. CTV News noted that it had spoken to approximately 35 Liberal MPs recently, with five indicating support for the initiative to oust Trudeau.

Dissatisfaction with Trudeau's leadership has surged within the party, especially following significant losses in two key by-elections in Toronto and Montreal, areas that have traditionally been Liberal strongholds. This has prompted dissenters to advocate for Trudeau's departure ahead of the next federal election, set for late October 2025.

In an interview with CTV News on Tuesday, Montreal Liberal MP Anthony Housefather indirectly acknowledged the movement against Trudeau within the party.

“I support whoever is leader of my party at all times, but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a robust caucus discussion about who the best person to lead us in the next election is,” he remarked.

Several Liberal MPs have begun to speak out against Trudeau publicly. For example, Sean Casey, the MP for Charlottetown, stated that an increasing number of constituents in his district have expressed dissatisfaction with the Prime Minister's leadership and organizational management of the party.

“The message that I’ve been getting loud and clear – and more and more strongly as time goes by – is that it is time for [Trudeau] to go. And I agree,” the MP conveyed in an exclusive interview on Tuesday.
