Trump takes aim at ‘gender ideology’ within the military
US President Donald Trump has issued an executive order aimed at excluding ‘gender ideology’ from the US armed forces. Read Full Article at RT.com.
Entitled ‘Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness’, the order was issued on Monday, shortly after Trump's inauguration, as part of a wider strategy to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in the federal government.
The directive emphasizes that military service should be reserved for individuals who meet mental and physical fitness standards. It specifies a focus on troop readiness, lethality, cohesion, honesty, humility, uniformity, and integrity.
“This policy is inconsistent with the medical, surgical, and mental health constraints on individuals with gender dysphoria,” the order states. “This policy is also inconsistent with shifting pronoun usage or use of pronouns that inaccurately reflect an individual’s sex.”
Newly confirmed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who received narrow Senate approval last Friday, is responsible for enforcing the directive. He is required to revise medical standards for military service within 60 days to reflect the order’s goals.
In the coming month, Hegseth will devise a strategy to address these issues and submit it for Trump's consideration.
The military will prioritize “restoring the warrior ethos, rebuilding our military, and reestablishing deterrence,” Hegseth stated in a message to armed forces on Saturday.
This executive order is part of a broader initiative by the president to eliminate DEI programs within the federal government. On his first day back in office, he issued orders to reverse protections for transgender individuals and eliminate DEI initiatives, characterizing these actions as efforts to stop the “socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life.”
