US President-elect Donald Trump shared his holiday greetings on Wednesday via his Truth Social platform, with a focus on several nations and political opponents as he prepares to return to the White House in January.
In his message, Trump first addressed “the wonderful soldiers of China, who are lovingly, but illegally, operating the Panama Canal.” The canal was under US control for nearly a century before being returned to Panama in 1999, after which the local government contracted Chinese companies to manage it.
He then directed his seasonal wishes to “Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada, whose citizens’ taxes are far too high,” suggesting that these could be cut by 60% if Canada were to become “our 51st state.”
Trump also expressed good wishes to “the people of Greenland, which is needed by the United States for national security purposes and who want the US to be there, and we will!” This remark comes as he has recently reignited discussions about American control over Greenland following his unsuccessful proposal to purchase the island in 2019.
Continuing his message, Trump said, “Merry Christmas to the Radical Left Lunatics,” accusing Democrats of attempting to obstruct US courts and elections while targeting him and other Americans.
“They know that their only chance of survival is getting pardons from a man who has absolutely no idea what he is doing,” he remarked, referring to outgoing President Joe Biden. He added that Biden’s decision to commute the death sentences of 37 federal inmates should have resulted in them being punished instead.
“We had the greatest election in the history of our country, a bright light is now shining over the USA, and in 26 days we will Make America Great Again,” the president-elect concluded. “Merry Christmas!”
As he prepares for his inauguration on January 20, Trump has hinted at a series of “day one” initiatives, including executive orders on immigration and energy and efforts to negotiate a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
