On Friday, a trans-Caspian international transport corridor for the China-Europe Railway Express was inaugurated in Xi'an, located in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

From Xi'an International Port Station, a China-Europe freight train set off on its journey. It will traverse several countries, including Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, before arriving at its destination in Mannheim, Germany, totaling a distance of 11,300 kilometers.

The ceremony for the launch was organized by 15 members of the International Association of Trans-Caspian International Transport Routes.

Yuan Xiaojun, the general manager of Xi'an Free Trade Port Construction and Operation, pointed out that previously, the trans-Caspian international transport relied mainly on outsourcing, where different rail and logistics companies were commissioned separately. However, he emphasized that now, all member units have come together in Xi'an to collectively cater to the Chinese market.

"This shift and upgrade in the service model not only enhances the efficiency, timeliness and cost-effectiveness of transporting goods from China to Europe via this corridor but also deepens the integration of services from the trans-Caspian member units into China, fostering a stronger connection with the Chinese export market," he stated.

Since the initiation of the trans-Caspian and Black Sea train services in April 2022, operations for Xi'an's trans-Caspian trains have experienced rapid growth. The frequency has surged from one train every week to six or seven trains weekly. To date, 150 trains have been dispatched, transporting a total of 137,000 tonnes of goods.
