Instead of providing a link to the official site for the movie adaptation of “Wicked,” featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the packaging erroneously contained a URL for Wicked Pictures, an adult film site, as noted by social media users.
“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the US, which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page,” the company stated on Sunday.
“We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this. Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children,” it added.
Customers who noticed the mistake took to social media to share photographs of the toy boxes, while Mattel advised those who purchased the dolls to either discard the packaging or “obscure the link.”
As for unsold products, Mattel did not clarify whether it had removed items with the erroneous URL from stores, but reports indicate that several “Wicked” dolls were unavailable at retailers like Amazon, Target, and Mattel's official website by Monday.
Reports also highlighted that the mishap had resulted in an increase in website traffic for Wicked Pictures, the adult-entertainment company connected to the incorrect URL.
Wicked Pictures “was formed with a firm commitment to producing quality parody porn movies,” including parodies of Marvel’s “Black Widow” and “Captain Marvel,” its website states. The company claims to “showcase some of the top-rated female porn stars,” including Stormy Daniels, who is known for her legal issues involving US President-elect Donald Trump.
