Tesla Announces Recall of Thousands of Cybertrucks
Tesla is recalling thousands of its Cybertrucks due to a drive-inverter issue that could elevate the risk of a crash. Read Full Article at RT.com.
Affected Cybertrucks include those manufactured between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024, which are or were equipped with metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors in their drive inverter.
According to Tesla, a fault in the drive inverter may lead to a halt in torque production when the driver presses the accelerator pedal. This situation could potentially result in a loss of propulsion, increasing the likelihood of a collision, as noted in the filing.
The company plans to replace the faulty drive inverters with fully functional components at no expense to the customers.
The recall was prompted by an investigation launched by Tesla in August after a customer reported a sudden loss of propulsion in a Cybertruck, with the incident first occurring on July 31. The electric vehicle manufacturer has since noticed a higher failure rate among drive inverters equipped with MOSFET components, leading to the decision to voluntarily recall these vehicles.
Tesla reported that there have been no crashes, fatalities, or injuries related to this issue.
In total, Tesla has reported six recalls for Cybertrucks this year, addressing various concerns including accelerator pedals, improperly adhered bed trim, and front wiper malfunctions, among others.
Last month, the automaker announced a separate recall of over 27,000 Cybertrucks in the U.S. due to malfunctions in rearview cameras that could limit driver visibility and raise the risk of accidents.
Tesla began delivering the Cybertruck in 2023 after a two-year production delay attributed to battery supply difficulties. The innovative electric pickup was initially unveiled in 2019.
