Secret Service agent robbed at gunpoint after Biden fundraiser
The agent did not sustain any injuries.
A U.S. Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint on Saturday in California after President Joe Biden held a fundraising event in Los Angeles.
On Saturday evening, a Secret Service employee had his bag stolen at gunpoint near a Southern California residential community, according to the Tustin Police Department. The agent fired his service weapon during the robbery, though it’s unknown whether the suspect was injured because they have not been located yet.
The agent was returning from a work assignment when the robbery occurred, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement. He did not sustain any injuries, Guglielmi said, and his name has not been released.
The police department said there is no public threat, but it is seeking help in identifying the robbers. Officers located some of the agent’s belongings in the area.
Biden was in Los Angeles for a star-studded fundraiser that broke Democratic fundraising records Saturday night, raising at least $28 million. The event included a moderated conversation by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel with Biden and former President Barack Obama. The event also featured actors George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jason Bateman, Jack Black, Kathryn Hahn and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
