Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation between Russia and China amidst global instability during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the Kremlin on Tuesday.

Putin extended his warm greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and expressed his contentment with the effective execution of previously established agreements between the two nations' leaders.

He highlighted the ongoing development of Russia-China relations, noting that practical collaboration is deepening across various sectors and that the current "Russia-China Year of Culture" is receiving significant public enthusiasm, which helps reinforce the foundation of their friendship.

This year commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's triumph in the Great Patriotic War, prompting Putin to invite Chinese representatives to participate in related celebrations in Russia. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging the historical significance of overcoming Nazi fascism and Japanese militarism, mentioning that Russia is making thorough preparations for this event.

Putin suggested that this anniversary should elevate the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights and enhance multilateral cooperation within organizations such as the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and BRICS.

In light of global turbulence, he stressed the necessity for both countries to send a consistent and powerful message of strengthened strategic coordination to the international community.

Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, conveyed warm wishes from President Xi Jinping to President Putin. He remarked that under the strategic direction of the two leaders, China-Russia relations have grown into a robust and stable partnership characterized by deepening political trust, closer strategic alignment, and ongoing practical cooperation.

Wang pointed out that this collaboration has protected the development of both nations and their mutual interests in significant global and regional matters. He reiterated that China-Russia cooperation "never targets third parties" and remains unaffected by external interference, assuring that the relationship will "keep broadening, not stagnate," with a focus on the long-term future.

He recalled that over 80 years ago, the peoples of China and the Soviet Union fought gallantly on the Asian and European fronts, making substantial sacrifices to defeat Japanese militarism and Nazi fascism, thereby playing a crucial role in ensuring global peace.

Wang stated that as essential stabilizing forces in an unstable world, China and Russia must jointly uphold the accomplishments of World War II, protect the post-war international order, and strengthen the United Nations' central role within the global system.

Both nations are dedicated to promoting multilateralism and democratizing international relations. He expressed confidence that aligned plans to support each other’s 80th-anniversary commemorative events will enhance bilateral relations, and noted that Wang also engaged in multiple rounds of discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during his visit to address bilateral and international issues.
