In China, the report revealed that the first 11 months of 2024 marked the third-highest precipitation levels in the country's history, with heavy and frequent rainfall affecting both northern and southern areas. The country also faced widespread extreme temperatures and a series of typhoons, especially in the autumn months.
The report emphasizes the need for countries to enhance collaboration as the effects of climate change continue to escalate.
Positive developments in China over the past year are also highlighted in the report. It identifies "significant progress" in sectors including renewable energy, electric vehicles, and green buildings. Moreover, it points out the effectiveness of mechanisms such as carbon emissions trading markets in promoting carbon reduction. The report mentions that artificial intelligence has been successfully implemented in related domains, and it anticipates that AI will play a pivotal role in addressing climate challenges.
This annual publication, released by the Joint Laboratory of Climate Change Economics and Simulation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the China Meteorological Administration, and the Social Sciences Academic Press, is collaboratively prepared by experts from CASS and CMA along with leading scholars in climate change studies in China. This marks the 16th edition of the report.
