Private plane goes down in America's 'Amish Country'
A small single-engine private aircraft with five people on board crashed in a residential area of Manheim Township, Pennsylvania.

The incident took place near Lancaster Airport shortly after 3 PM on Sunday. Footage from the scene reveals sections of the fuselage scattered across a parking lot, with several vehicles engulfed in flames.

Local news outlet WPVI-TV reported multiple injuries as a result of the crash.

“Our team at Pennsylvania State Police is on the ground assisting local first responders,” wrote Governor Josh Shapiro on X. “All Commonwealth resources are available as the response continues, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.”

Lancaster County is recognized as the heart of America’s Amish Country, where tens of thousands maintain their centuries-old traditions of farming and handicrafts. However, in recent decades, areas like Manheim have seen modern development encroach upon these communities due to suburban expansion.

The US has witnessed several tragic aviation incidents in recent months. In January, 67 people lost their lives when a US Army Black Hawk helicopter collided with a passenger plane over the Potomac River. A medical jet also crashed in Philadelphia that month, resulting in seven deaths. Additionally, in February, a passenger Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX crash in Alaska claimed the lives of 10 individuals.
