Poll Reveals Most Americans Agree with Trump's Views
**US President-elect’s Key Campaign Promises on Illegal Immigration and Transgender Issues Resonate with Respondents**

Most Americans show support for Donald Trump’s policies, even as the president-elect's approval rating hovers around 50 percent, as revealed by a New York Times and Ipsos poll released on Saturday.

The survey, which included 2,128 adults from January 2 to January 10, indicates robust backing for several of Trump's central policy objectives, such as reducing illegal immigration and enacting protectionist policies against Chinese imports.

Over two-thirds of those surveyed opposed providing so-called “gender-affirming care” to children, which is another significant focus of Trump’s agenda. Approximately 71% of Americans contend that no minors should be prescribed puberty-blocking drugs or hormones.

In a statement last month, Trump committed to ending “transgender lunacy,” pledging to ban sex change surgeries for minors and prevent trans athletes from competing in women's sports. Almost four in five respondents agreed that athletes assigned male at birth but who have transitioned should not be permitted to compete against women in sports.

A significant majority of respondents, 87%, endorsed the deportation of illegal immigrants with criminal records, which stands as a crucial part of Trump’s reelection campaign narrative. More than half of those surveyed either strongly or somewhat supported the deportation of all illegal immigrants currently in the US.

Nearly two-thirds of participants—including 54% of Hispanics and 44% of Democrats—expressed support for the deportation of undocumented migrants who entered the US during President Joe Biden’s last four years in office. The Biden administration has overturned multiple immigration restrictions that were instituted by Trump during his first term, which has been linked to an increase in illegal immigration.

Support for Trump’s promises to increase tariffs on Chinese and Mexican imports was almost evenly divided, though slightly leaning towards opposition. Approximately 46% of respondents backed raising tariffs on goods from these countries, while 50% opposed such initiatives.

Trump's favorability rating remains just below 50%, as indicated by data from the poll aggregator site FiveThirtyEight on Friday.

More than half of Americans perceive the entire US political system as broken, based on the NYT/Ipsos poll findings. About 57% of Democrats and 63% of Republicans share the sentiment that the American political system has been dysfunctional for decades.
