Heavy snowfall and blizzards have caused significant disruption in daily life across 18 provinces in Türkiye, resulting in the closure of 2,173 roads, according to a report from state-run TRT on Sunday.

In the Metropolitan Municipality of eastern Van province, heavy snow accumulation and blizzards have cut off access to 19 neighborhoods and 35 hamlets. Street-clearing efforts are currently happening in the Ercis district, where the snow depth has reached 40 centimeters.

In the eastern Mus province, teams are working diligently to reduce disruptions for residents, although 46 village roads remain inaccessible. Similarly, in southeastern Bitlis province, local transportation has been gravely affected, with 50 village roads rendered completely blocked.

In eastern Hakkari, snow-clearing teams have successfully reconnected 32 of the 34 settlements that were cut off due to Friday’s heavy snowfall and blizzards. However, the risk of avalanches has halted work on the roads leading to Alan village in the Semdinli district and Aktoprak hamlet in the Yuksekova district.

The Black Sea region has seen particularly heavy snowfall affecting higher-altitude villages. In Kastamonu, transportation has been disrupted in mountainous areas. Sinop has reported the closure of 282 village roads due to snow, and the Sinop Provincial Governor's Office has indicated that adverse weather conditions, including snow and ice, are expected to continue until midday on Monday.

In Trabzon, snowfall that began early in the morning along the coast has intensified, impacting transportation and daily activities. Strong winds accompanying the snowfall have resulted in high waves in the Black Sea, which have grounded fishing boats at ports.

Rize has also experienced significant snowfall, leading to the closure of 81 village roads, and municipal teams are actively clearing these blocked routes. In eastern Erzurum province, eight neighborhood roads have been closed due to heavy snow and strong winds, while four village roads remain impassable in Ardahan.

Authorities in the affected provinces have urged residents to take precautionary measures against the severe weather and to avoid unnecessary travel until road-clearing operations are completed.
