NPC spokesperson details China's measures for data privacy and security
At a press conference on Tuesday, Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, stated that China upholds data privacy and security in compliance with legal standards and is against the excessive broadening of national security concepts or the politicization of economic and technological matters.

These comments were made in response to inquiries about the growing popularity of DeepSeek, an AI startup based in Hangzhou, and the broader implications of artificial intelligence usage.
Lou expressed China's readiness to collaborate with countries around the globe to promote the healthy development of artificial intelligence, stimulate global economic growth, and improve the well-being of people everywhere. He highlighted China's Global AI Governance Initiative, aimed at bridging the technological divide and ensuring that technological advancements do not become exclusive to wealthy nations and individuals.
The spokesperson also praised Chinese technology companies, including DeepSeek, for their consistent technological innovations.
DeepSeek has created models such as DeepSeek-R1, which demonstrate performance comparable to leading American AI systems while being developed at significantly lower costs.
This success illustrates the concept of "frugal innovation," where limitations inspire creative solutions. Despite resource constraints, DeepSeek's team has produced inventive software solutions without relying on high-end hardware.
Furthermore, iFlytek, a leading Chinese technology firm, has made notable strides in AI, especially in the realms of speech recognition and natural language processing.
Their technologies have been utilized in various applications, including intelligent voice assistants and translation services, greatly improving human-computer interaction and accessibility.
These instances underscore the importance of commitment to innovation, openness, and sharing as a means to enhance people's well-being.
