On his first day back in office, Trump issued a series of decrees intended to reverse several policies from the Biden administration. Orban, a staunch supporter of Trump, congratulated the president via X, stating that his executive orders would "transform not only the US, but the entire world."
The Hungarian leader emphasized that Trump's resurgence in office signifies a "new stage" in the fight against "woke liberal democracy" and called on "patriotic forces to occupy Brussels."
Orban views Trump's presidency as pivotal for US-EU relations, anticipating a conservative shift in US policies that could challenge the EU's leadership. Speaking in Budapest shortly before Trump’s swearing-in, he urged sensible EU leaders to acknowledge a movement towards a "new world order," expressing that "soon, the sun will shine differently over Brussels."
He believes that Trump's approach could widen the rift between Washington and Brussels, especially as EU leaders continue to promote liberal policies on migration, family, and gender matters.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto echoed Orban's thoughts, noting that Trump's early executive actions signify an end to "pro-war and pro-migration madness" and herald the "era of peace, security, national sovereignty and common sense."
Trump’s aggressive agenda includes a range of measures designed to enhance security, such as declaring a national emergency at the southern border, designating drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, and terminating automatic birthright citizenship for children of non-citizen parents.
In reversing 78 executive orders from Joe Biden, Trump has abolished numerous initiatives aimed at promoting 'racial equity' and combating discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals. Additionally, he initiated a US withdrawal from both the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Agreement.
These actions, reflecting Trump's campaign commitment to reinstate what he terms as "common sense" governance with an emphasis on national security and traditional values, have sparked diverse reactions on the global stage, garnering both acclaim and criticism.
