China refutes allegations regarding Ukrainian weapons
Vladimir Zelensky has accused Beijing of covertly supplying arms to Russia, a claim that China has dismissed as “groundless… political manipulation.”

On Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian asserted that China “has never provided lethal weapons to any party to the [Ukraine] conflict, and has kept its dual-use exports under strict control.” He emphasized that Beijing supports a “ceasefire and talks for peace” between Kiev and Moscow.

These statements come in response to accusations made by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky on Thursday, who indicated he had received “important, not so pleasant information” regarding “China supplying weapons to the Russian Federation.”

Zelensky mentioned that they have “general information from the Security Service [of Ukraine], from the intelligence services about gunpowder [and] artillery.” He further accused China of manufacturing certain weapons on Russian territory and promised to provide additional details in the future.

In a related development, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry summoned China’s chargé d’affaires last week after Zelensky announced that Ukrainian forces had detained two Chinese nationals allegedly serving in the Russian military. He claimed that there are “significantly more” Chinese citizens fighting for Moscow.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga expressed concerns on X, stating that this development “puts into question China’s declared stance for peace.”

Last Wednesday, Lin Jian rejected the allegations from Kiev as “groundless,” reiterating that Beijing consistently advises its citizens against participating in foreign armed conflicts in any capacity.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded the following day, asserting that “China has always maintained a very balanced position, so Zelensky is wrong.”

Beijing has also dismissed accusations from Washington that its trade with Russia contributes to Moscow’s military production, maintaining its stance of neutrality in the ongoing conflict.
