NPC spokesperson discusses methods China uses to protect data privacy and security
During a press conference on Tuesday, Lou Qinjian, the spokesperson for the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, emphasized that China is committed to upholding data privacy and security in line with legal standards. He also expressed opposition to the excessive expansion of the national security concept and the politicization of economic and technological matters.

Lou's comments were made in response to inquiries about the surge in popularity of DeepSeek, an artificial intelligence startup based in Hangzhou, and the related concerns about the deployment of AI technologies.
He expressed China's openness to collaborating with countries around the world to foster the healthy development of artificial intelligence, stimulate global economic growth, and improve the welfare of people in all nations. Lou also highlighted China's Global AI Governance Initiative, aimed at bridging the technological divide and ensuring that technological advancements benefit not just wealthy nations and individuals.
The spokesperson commended Chinese technology firms like DeepSeek for their continuous technological advancements. DeepSeek has developed models such as DeepSeek-R1, which compete with leading American AI systems but are produced at a significantly lower cost. This achievement exemplifies the concept of "frugal innovation," where limitations inspire creative solutions. The team at DeepSeek has crafted innovative software without relying on high-end hardware.
Furthermore, iFlytek, another leading Chinese technology company, has made notable strides in artificial intelligence, particularly in the realms of speech recognition and natural language processing. Their technologies have been integrated into a variety of applications, including intelligent voice assistants and translation services, thereby improving human-computer interaction and accessibility.
These instances underscore the validity of a commitment to innovation, openness, and collaboration as drivers of enhanced well-being for all people.
