North Korea Accuses the US of Risking a ‘nuclear disaster’

The United States is reportedly taking a perilous risk by supplying more weapons to Ukraine while seemingly disregarding warnings from Russia, potentially setting the stage for a “nuclear disaster,” according to Kim Yo-jong.
In June, during a state visit to North Korea, Russian President Vladimir Putin and leader Kim Jong-un formalized the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This agreement includes mutual support commitments in the event of foreign aggression. Putin declared that “Russia does not rule out the development of military cooperation with the DPRK,” particularly in response to Western nations providing advanced arms to Ukraine.
In a recent press statement, Kim Yo-jong asserted that “additional US military support for Ukraine will bring about a nuclear disaster to the world.” She criticized U.S. President Joe Biden’s recent decision to send nearly $8 billion in military aid to Ukraine as “foolish.”
Kim argues that this escalation will only lengthen the conflict in Ukraine and provoke “further adventurous military action” from Kyiv.
Addressing U.S. leaders, Kim proposed that they consider removing Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky from office, whom she labeled a “foolish and silly guy.” She warned, “Calamity is inevitable unless [the] insanity of Zelensky is stopped.”
She emphasized the need for the “US and the West to neither ignore nor underestimate Russia’s stern warnings,” referencing President Putin's recent remarks about updating Moscow’s nuclear doctrine.
“Can the US and the West deal with the consequences to be entailed by their current fearless war gamble against Russia, a nuclear superpower?” Kim queried rhetorically.
In a meeting of the national security council, President Putin suggested that the criteria for justifying a nuclear strike should encompass a “massive” missile or air attack by another state against Russia or its close ally, Belarus. He noted that the types of weapons that could be used in such an attack may include ballistic or cruise missiles, as well as strategic aircraft and drones.
“Aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear state… supported by a nuclear power should be treated as their joint attack,” Putin remarked, though he did not specify when modifications to Russia’s nuclear doctrine would take effect.
