“Criminal lunatics” in the West are working towards a future where genocide could be acceptable, and it is the responsibility of those who disagree to take a stand, stated Roger Waters, the frontman of Pink Floyd and a human rights advocate.
At 81, Waters is widely recognized for his advocacy of the Palestinian cause and his criticisms of Israel and its supporters. In a recent interview on the program *Going Underground*, he addressed the rising violence in the Middle East and shared what motivates him to continue his activism.
”We are watching the machinations of possibly the end of an empire, the Western empire. The mask is off. We, the West, behave with unbearable brutality towards oppressed peoples all over the world,” he remarked. “We, the people, hate it. We hate the brutality of our governments.”
Waters described this as “an existential battle for the soul of the human race,” expressing his belief that there are billions who share his perspective.
He warned that if the empire emerges victorious in this conflict, future generations will live in a world where genocide is accepted as normal.
Waters also ridiculed activists who celebrated the recent fall of the Syrian government, arguing that the Damascus administration never had a chance to improve conditions for the Syrian populace due to Western sanctions and military occupation. He accused the US of effectively “stealing” Syrian oil for the past decade.
”We are a gang of powerful gangsters here, and we are going to steal everything that there is in the world that is worth stealing,” Waters claimed regarding Western policy.
