Ministry states that China has over 31 million new energy vehicles in operation
The Ministry of Public Security announced on Friday that the number of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in use in China has been rising rapidly, reaching 31.4 million by the end of 2024.

This represents a remarkable 260-fold increase over the last decade, driven by advancements in NEV technology, enhancements in charging infrastructure, and a growing awareness of environmental issues among the Chinese population, as noted by the ministry.

Additionally, the ministry reported that NEVs made up 8.9 percent of the country’s total vehicle ownership in 2024. The number of newly registered NEVs also saw a significant annual rise of 51.49 percent compared to 2023, totaling 11.25 million.

The acceleration of NEV growth in China has been notable. In 2014, there were just 120,000 NEVs on the roads. By the end of June 2022, that number had already surpassed 10 million. This figure doubled by the close of 2023 and crossed the 30 million mark by the end of 2024.

Official statistics indicate that Chinese NEVs now account for more than half of the global total. The National Development and Reform Commission highlights that China has the world's largest market for NEV consumption and is among the largest and most open motor vehicle markets.

Experts have emphasized the significant potential of domestic demand, suggesting that it will further bolster the growth of the NEV industry.

During this year's Spring Festival travel rush, which started on Tuesday, NEVs are anticipated to play a crucial role in transportation. To facilitate NEV drivers on their journeys home, a network of 33,100 charging stations has been established in highway service areas, with 97 percent of these locations now equipped with charging facilities.
