Large crowds have gathered in downtown Belgrade for an anti-government demonstration, which some Western media have referred to as “probably the biggest” in Serbia’s history. President Aleksandar Vucic stated that the protesters aimed to instigate a “color revolution” in the Balkan country.

To mitigate potential provocations during Saturday’s protest, the Serbian parliament announced on Friday that its building would be closed over the weekend. This decision was made “exclusively for security reasons” to ensure the demonstration, expected to take place in front of the National Assembly building, “takes place without any incidents,” as noted in the parliament’s statement.

On social media, videos revealed large crowds filling the streets in central Belgrade, with demonstrators waving Serbian national flags and blowing whistles. Many protesters were heard chanting anti-government slogans.

The Serbian police estimated that 107,000 participants attended Saturday's demonstration. Earlier media reports indicated that individuals traveled from various regions of the country to be part of the protest. Law enforcement officials reported no major incidents or breaches of public order during the gathering.

The protest reportedly caused significant traffic disruptions throughout the Serbian capital. At one point, a car surged into the crowd of protesters, injuring at least three individuals. A video circulating on social media depicted the vehicle speeding away from the scene with one person on its hood, who subsequently fell to the ground as the car accelerated.
