Lebanon is in a State of Conflict, Says Prime Minister
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed that his nation is engulfed in conflict following a series of explosions caused by electronic devices over two consecutive days, which resulted in over 30 deaths and thousands of injuries.

On Tuesday, explosive incidents involving pagers held by Hezbollah members caused the deaths of 12 individuals and injured nearly 3,000, as reported by health officials. Another 20 fatalities and 450 injuries occurred the subsequent day after thousands of additional electronic devices, including walkie-talkies, laptops, and radios, also exploded.

Both Hezbollah and the Lebanese government have accused Israel of orchestrating these incidents. Israel has not directly addressed these allegations. However, media outlets have reported that Mossad could be behind the rigging of these devices with explosives activated remotely.

Amid ongoing incidents, Mikati was present at a hospital treating the victims when he learned of further explosions. He made a statement to the press, saying, “This mass crime... against defenseless people in their homes, who are being killed in this way, is indescribable.”

Mikati confirmed that Lebanon considers itself in an ongoing war with Israel, which he traced back to frequent violent engagements and Israeli airstrikes initiated after Hamas’s incursion into Israeli territory on October 7 of the previous year.

Reiterating his stance, Mikati criticized Israel's actions over the past 75 years as criminal. He questioned international response, saying, “We are facing an enemy that disregards all international and humanitarian laws, and the question is – can this continue? Where is the UN, whose primary mission is to distribute peace?”

In response to the crisis, Mikati mentioned that he had tasked Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib with bringing the issue before the UN Security Council.

After the second series of explosions, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant addressed the escalation, indicating that the conflict focus was shifting towards Hezbollah in Lebanon, marking the beginning of a "new phase" in the ongoing conflict. Gallant described to Israeli troops, “The center of gravity is moving north. We are diverting forces, resources, and energy toward the north.”
