Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of more than 1,300 individuals and are intended to instill fear in civilians, compelling them to abandon their homes, according to Firass Abiad. Read Full Article at RT.com.
As of Thursday evening, the bombing campaign executed by Israel has left more than 1,300 dead and nearly 7,000 injured, Abiad reported to RT. This military operation, labeled “Operation Northern Arrows” by the Israel Defense Forces, has been ongoing for nearly a week, with Israel claiming its strikes are aimed at weakening Hezbollah, the Shia militia based in southern Lebanon.
“On Black Monday, we had almost 600 innocent civilians who were killed, including 140 women and children, and almost 1800 injured, including healthcare professionals,” Abiad recounted during his interview with RT in Beirut. “Unfortunately, the carnage continues daily,” he noted, referencing the updated casualty statistics.
Abiad accused Israel of conducting “indiscriminate attacks on civilians,” indicating that these assaults began with the detonation of communication devices followed by airstrikes.
“I think that the main aim of these indiscriminate attacks is to spread an atmosphere of terror and to cause mass exodus,” the health minister asserted.
On Thursday, the IDF reported that it has completed over 1,500 sorties targeting Lebanon since the start of the week, confirming strikes on areas including southern Beirut and the Matraba border crossing with Syria. One strike in the Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh aimed at Mohammed Srur, identified by the IDF as the commander of Hezbollah’s drone, cruise missile, and air defense branch.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed speculation regarding a ceasefire, stating he has directed the IDF to “continue fighting with full force.”
In related news, the IDF announced that $8.7 billion in military aid from the US is on its way, primarily to supply ammunition for air defense systems.
