Journalist Recollects ‘Twisted Mind’ of Market-Attack Suspect After Interview
Taleb Al Abdulmohsen, a Saudi national, stands accused of driving his car into a crowd at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including a nine-year-old boy, and injuring approximately 200 others. The incident has drawn significant attention, particularly regarding the suspect's mental state and motives.

Mustafa Fetouri, a journalist who previously interviewed Al Abdulmohsen, described him as “not well” and possessing a “twisted mind.” Fetouri, who also serves as the spokesperson for the Association for the Victims of NATO’s Intervention in Libya, noted that it remains ambiguous what drove the suspect to the attack, labeling him a “lost soul.”

Following the event last Friday, Al Abdulmohsen was arrested at the scene and identified as the primary suspect. Fetouri expressed that his discussions with Al Abdulmohsen, which took place in 2019, revealed a man who had previously practiced Shia Islam but eventually rejected it and relocated to Germany. According to Fetouri, Al Abdulmohsen distanced himself from religion, claiming to have dedicated himself to helping individuals, particularly women, escape from Saudi Arabia.

Reflecting on the suspect's belief system, Fetouri stated, “it is unlikely that al-Abdulmohsen carried out Friday’s attack over some religious beliefs because he has no religion and is against all forms of religion, including Christianity, Judaism, you name it.”

Reports indicate that Al Abdulmohsen is a 50-year-old psychiatrist who has resided in Germany for nearly two decades. He allegedly held radical anti-Islamic sentiments and has been critical of the German government's migration policies on social media. Fetouri also expressed skepticism regarding Al Abdulmohsen’s qualifications as a psychiatrist, which have been reported in various media outlets.

Despite the media narrative surrounding Al Abdulmohsen as an islamophobe, some prominent figures, including billionaire Elon Musk, have called out the "legacy media" for allegedly misrepresenting his views and the motivations behind the attack.

Additionally, it has been reported that Saudi Arabia had provided multiple warnings to German authorities about Al Abdulmohsen, including a warning one year prior to the incident. However, the specifics of these warnings remain unclear, raising questions about why the German government did not take more significant action to address the potential threat ahead of the attack.
